Service is more than just a word in Emergency Medical Services — it's a calling. For Alexis, it’s a privilege to serve her community and a purpose she embraces wholeheartedly. Service is also one of the defining points of the Miss America crown, representing the heart of our Community Service Initiatives. It’s through this point that we bring meaningful change to the lives we touch.

For Alexis, service isn’t just part of her year — it’s the foundation of everything she stands for.

First Responder Night

Middle River, Minnesota

Just 30 minutes south of the Canadian border lies the town of Middle River, Minnesota — a close-knit community of 301 residents where the phrase “taking care of your neighbor” is more than just a saying. In times of emergency, it’s neighbors, friends, and family who respond and make up the Middle River Ambulance Service.

To elevate the service, Alexis Lombard, in partnership with the Middle River Ambulance Service, hosted First Responder Night — a celebration of those who serve at the heart of the community.

Aligned with her CSI, the First Responder Challenge, Alexis educated on the importance of being prepared for the most critical moments, offering hands-on lessons in Hands-Only CPR and showcasing how EMS crews assess patients. First Responder Night was all about uplifting a community that looks out for one another, especially when it matters most.

SOCKTOBER

Winter can be harsh, but for some, it’s even more challenging. Last winter, 9,201 people in our community faced homelessness, enduring the bitter cold without the basics many of us take for granted. To make a difference, Alexis launched “SOCKTOBER”—a sock collection drive in October, in collaboration with Makwa Coffee and North Memorial Ambulance Service.

The results were incredible. Thanks to the generosity of the Makwa and North communities, 490 pairs of socks were collected and donated to three amazing organizations: The Aliveness Project, HOPE 4 YOUTH, and Alexandra House.

  • The Aliveness Project supports individuals living with or at high risk for HIV, offering essential services like testing, resources, and harm reduction, with a special focus on unhoused Minnesotans.

  • HOPE 4 YOUTH works to support young people aged 16-24 experiencing homelessness in the Twin Cities, providing them with critical resources to help rebuild their lives.

  • Alexandra House empowers survivors of domestic and sexual abuse, offering housing assistance, legal advocacy, and support for individuals of all gender identities.

Each of these organizations was chosen for their tireless outreach, both locally and globally, to those in need. A huge thank you to Makwa Coffee and North Memorial Ambulance Service for their unwavering support in making SOCKTOBER a success!

Goose Fest

Every fall, thousands gather in the charming town of Middle River, MN for the highly anticipated Goose Fest! For three action-packed days, the streets come alive with excitement, featuring everything from the thrilling opening ceremonies to the quirky and fun bed races, the high-flying flour bag drops, the highly anticipated Goose “drop”, and of course, the annual Goose Cookoff!

For Alexis, Goose Fest holds a special place in her heart, filled with unforgettable memories:

  • Riding atop the Middle River Ambulance during the Grand Day Parade

  • Swing dancing on Main Street with her sister queen, Miss Glacial Waters, Emma, bringing the energy to the heart of the festival

  • Competing in the Goose Calling Contest—with absolutely no prior experience in goose calling

  • Serving up a delicious plate of Goose Fried Rice to festival-goers and earning the seal of approval from hungry taste testers with 2nd place!

Goose Fest in Middle River was definitely all it was “quacked” up to be!

Emergency Education

Emergency education goes beyond just teaching life-saving skills—it’s about inspiring the next generation! Alexis has had the privilege of connecting with kindergarteners to college-bound teens through classroom visits to professional panels.

Some of Alexis’s standout appearances include:

  • Girl Up: A United Nations initiative empowering girls globally. Alexis shared her American Heart Association journey, EMS experiences as a woman, and how Miss America empowered her as a leader.

  • Hope Community Academy: Alexis spoke at their first career day, showcasing how students can pursue vocational careers and reduce the cost of higher education.

  • Greenbush Middle River School District: Alexis inspired young women to pursue healthcare careers with a Q&A session on the fast-paced field of medicine.

  • HOSA Future Health Professionals: Over 800 students from across the state attended their Fall Leadership Conference, where Alexis introduced the field of EMS and conducted a student-led opioid overdose scenario to give a hands-on EMS experience.

Alexis is driven to inspire the next generation of providers from teaching CPR in health classes to guiding them toward impactful careers.
